Prescribed burn at Reimers Ranch Park

Travis County Parks plans to conduct a prescribed burn at Reimers Ranch Park on Thursday, March 2, 2017. The prescribed burn will take place between 11:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. and will take 3-4 hours to complete. Travis County Parks is conducting the burn in cooperation with personnel from the local fire departments and area natural resource agencies.

The prescribed burn includes approximately 45 acres of live oak savannahs and will help maintain this plant community by removing invading shrubs, reducing the number of exotic species, and enhancing the health and diversity of the native plant community.

The prescribed burn can be completed with any wind direction; however, we expect to complete the prescribed burn with northeasterly winds which will carry smoke to the southwest towards the Pedernales River. Some smoke impacts may occur, but they should be relatively light and of a short duration due to the small size of the project.

The park will remain open; however, some portions of the park may be closed. Currently the only planned closures are for a portion of the River Access Parking Area and the River Bluff and North Shore areas.

Reimers Ranch Park is located at: 23610 Hamilton Pool Rd., Dripping Springs, TX 78620.

Media note: No media will be allowed on-site. There may be a PIO or staff available for interviews. Please call the PIO (contact listed above), or check in at the park fee booth for additional information.
