Travis County Parks plans to conduct multiple prescribed burns at Reimers Ranch Park during the week of January 9, 2017. The location and date of the burns will be determined by the weather but they are expected to occur Tuesday and Wednesday between 11:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. The prescribed burns will each take approximately three to four hours to complete. Travis County Parks is conducting the burn in cooperation with personnel from the Lake Travis Fire Rescue, Pflugerville Fire Department, CeBar Fire Department, the LBJ Wildflower Center, The Nature Conservancy, and the US Fish and Wildlife Service.
The prescribed burns are being implemented to maintain the live oak savannahs by removing invading shrubs, reducing the amount of dead woody material on the ground, and enhancing the health and diversity of the native plant community.
The fires can be completed with any wind direction; however, predicted southerly winds will carry the smoke to the north across portions of the park and the communities to the north, including the Fall Creek and Pedernales Canyon communities. Some smoke impacts are expected, but they should be relatively light and/or of a short duration.
Reimers Ranch Park will be closed during the prescribed burns because of their location along the main entrance road.
Reimers Ranch Park is located at: 23610 Hamilton Pool Rd., Dripping Springs, TX 78620.
Media note: No media will be allowed on-site. There may be a PIO or staff available for interviews. Please call the PIO (contact listed above), or check in at the park fee booth for additional information.
