Travis County Parks plans to conduct a prescribed burn at Hamilton Pool Preserve tomorrow, February 16, 2017. The burn is expected to occur between 11:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. and will take approximately two to three hours to complete. Travis County Parks is conducting the burn in cooperation with personnel from the Lake Travis Fire Rescue, Pflugerville Fire Department, the Lower Colorado River Authority and the LBJ Wildflower Center.

The prescribed burn is part of an ongoing restoration effort on a 30-acre prairie near the park entrance and will help maintain the grassland by removing invading shrubs, reducing the number of exotic species, and enhancing the health and diversity of the native plant community.

The fire is expected to be conducted with southerly winds, which will carry the smoke away from Hamilton Pool Road and across Reimers Ranch Park and other communities to the north. Due to the small size of the project and the distance between the prescribed burn and the adjacent communities, very little smoke should be visible and no impacts are expected.

Hamilton Pool Preserve will be closed for all or a portion of the day while the prescribed burn is being conducted.

Hamilton Pool Preserve is located at: 24300 Hamilton Pool Road, Dripping Springs, 78620.
