Travis County Parks plans to conduct multiple prescribed burns in the Wilbarger Creek Project Area (east of Manor, Texas) the week of June 15, 2020. Seven small prescribed burns totaling 77 acres distributed across two properties are planned. The prescribed burns will take two days to complete and will occur between Tuesday and Friday of next week. The prescribed burns will occur between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. and will take approximately three to six hours to complete.
Travis County Parks is conducting the prescribed burn in cooperation with personnel from the local fire departments and natural resource agencies.
The prescribed burns are intended to reduce wildfire danger and improve ecosystem health by removing invading shrubs, consuming dead and downed vegetation, reducing the number of exotic species, and enhancing the health and diversity of the native plant community.
The prescribed burns will be implemented with southerly winds, which will carry the smoke to the north, across Littig Road between Parsons and Bitting School Road. The smoke could be dense for short periods immediately adjacent to the burns but will quickly disperse. Smoke is expected to be evident throughout the burn day but, due to the small size of the burns, impacts are expected to be light. Impacts will be limited to Littig Road and to a lesser extent the homes and communities between Littig Road and Highway 290.
The prescribed burns will be located at 17009 Littig Road, Manor, TX 78653 and 12043 Jones Road, Manor, TX 78653
