Prescribed Burns at Pace Bend Park Week of December 6, 2021
Travis County Parks plans to conduct multiple prescribed burns at Pace Bend Park the week of December 6, 2021. The prescribed burns will occur between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. and will take approximately three to five hours to complete.
The final plans will be determined by the weather and other considerations but the plan is to burn between 50 and 150 acres along the western boundary of the park on Monday and then either burn another 50 acres near the southwestern boundary of the park and/or burn piles along the western boundary of the park on Tuesday and/or Wednesday.
Travis County Parks is conducting the prescribed burns in cooperation with personnel from the local fire departments and natural resource agencies.
The prescribed burns are intended to reduce wildfire danger and improve ecosystem health by removing invading shrubs, consuming dead and downed vegetation, reducing the number of exotic species, and enhancing the health and diversity of the native plant community.
Northerly winds are predicted on Monday which will carry the smoke to the south and across the park. Some smoke impacts are expected in the park but they are expected to be minimal outside the park. Southerly winds are predicted on Tuesday and Wednesday. The smoke will carry across the lake and towards the communities to the north. It is expected to be light if the 50-acre prescribed burn is implemented and minimal if piles are burned.
The park will remain open but smoke could be evident in all areas of the park. Pace Bend Road, Collier Boat Ramp, and the North Gracy Camping Area are expected to be closed.
Pace Bend Park is located at 2805 Pace Bend Road North, Spicewood, TX 78669.
