Travis County Parks plans to conduct multiple prescribed burns in Eastern Travis County during the week of September 5, 2022. The prescribed burns will occur between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. each day.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, projects are planned on the Pruitt Tract near East Metropolitan Park. Pile burns and/or a small 6 -acre prescribed burn will be implemented depending on the fuel and weather conditions. Light smoke is expected. Southerly winds will carry smoke to the north across East Metropolitan Park and the communities near Taylor Lane and Blake Manor Road.

On Thursday, a 40-acre prescribed burn is planned on the Schneider Tract located along Wilbarger Creek. Denser smoke is expected. Northerly winds will carry the smoke to the south and towards the intersection of Parsons Road and Hogeye Road.

Travis County Parks is conducting the prescribed burns in cooperation with personnel from the local fire departments and natural resource agencies.

The prescribed burns are intended to reduce wildfire danger and improve ecosystem health. The pile burns are being conducted to remove heavy volumes of fuel and will be followed by routine prescribed burns in the future.

The Pruitt Tract is located at 8600 Burleson Manor Road, Manor, TX 78653.

The Schneider Tract is located at 12043 Jones Road, Manor, TX 78653.
